Craig Patera is a dedicated Master’s Level Candidate in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, currently pursuing a Master of Science degree from the University of Providence. Holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Human Behavior Studies from the University of Montana, Craig is deeply committed to assisting individuals in navigating life's complexities and fostering mental health.

In his therapeutic practice, Craig creates a safe and comfortable environment for clients to explore, recognizing that each person is uniquely shaped by their experiences. Understanding the transformative power of counseling, he endeavors to provide a space where clients can grow and overcome challenges. Craig is particularly attuned to the human tendency to grapple with aspects of the past and is dedicated to helping clients shape a future independent of those experiences.

With expertise in various therapeutic modalities, Craig specializes in Play Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). His extensive training also includes Substance Abuse Disorders, Parental Substance Abuse, Crisis Management, and more.

Working alongside Craig, you’ll discover a focus on exploring effective communication strategies. His passion lies in empowering individuals to become adept communicators, recognizing that the quality of our lives is intricately shaped by how we engage in dialogue—both externally with others and internally with ourselves.

Craig dedicated time serving at-risk youth at the Montana Youth Challenge Program, an experience that ignited his call to action in supporting young adults navigating life’s challenges. Over the years, he has immersed himself in working with teens and families confronted with a variety of difficulties, including addiction, legal issues, trauma, and complex life situations.

Craig would describe himself as a compassionate advocate for those facing adversity, driven by a genuine commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of young individuals and their families. His hands-on experience has deepened his understanding of the complex issues that adolescents and their families may grapple with, fueling his passion for providing empathetic and effective counseling support. Craig recognizes the resilience within each individual and strives to empower them in overcoming obstacles, fostering growth, and building a foundation for a brighter future.

Craig’s approach integrates client-centered interventions that empower clients, helping them develop their capacity to intervene in their own problems. This includes monitoring and replacing unhelpful thinking, allowing clients to break repetitive patterns of insufficiently strong mind skills while positively influencing their feelings. His commitment lies in creating a supportive atmosphere where clients can comfortably discuss vulnerable information and navigate their journey towards well-being.

If you are seeking a compassionate and dedicated counselor to support you in your journey, Craig is available for counseling sessions through virtual Telehealth appointments.
