In Focus Counseling Launches a Virtual OCD Treatment Program for Colorado and Montana.

Lakewood, Colorado – In Focus Counseling, a leading local mental health provider, is excited to announce the launch of their virtual- Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in Colorado. This new program aims to provide comprehensive and accessible treatment for adults struggling with OCD, combining evidence-based therapies with the convenience of virtual care.

OCD is a challenging mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. Misdiagnosis is prevalent and those in rural areas have limited access to specialized care increasing the suffering of the individual and their family. Recognizing the symptoms and need for specialized, and intensive support, In Focus Counseling has developed a unique Virtual IOP for OCD, leveraging healthcare  technology to bridge the gap between traditional outpatient therapy and residential treatment. “Coloradan’s are living in a treatment desert for OCD treatment”, says Lori Johnson, M.A., Clinical Director of the program. “There are programs that say they treat OCD, yet clients are not being taught vital evidence-based strategies and protocols. Despite the anxiety that presents with OCD, it is not an anxiety disorder. This is a common misconception.”

The Virtual IOP for OCD at In Focus Counseling offers a range of benefits for participants. By utilizing secure and HIPAA-compliant telehealth platforms, individuals in Colorado and also serves those in Montana, can access high-quality OCD treatment from the comfort and privacy of their own homes. This allows them to receive intensive care while minimizing disruptions to their daily routines, work, and personal commitments. Johnson goes on to say, “There are many folx living in rural areas. Requiring them to leave their families to head to Colorado or Seattle, for 3-4 weeks is a big ask.”

Accommodating up to 10 patients at a time, the In Focus Counseling treatment team provides the outpatient programming 2 hours a day, five days a week. “Our team strives for our patients ability to integrate what they are practicing in our program the same day they learn it.” Jennifer Head, Supervisor and Clinician of the program.

The program combines evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT), all of which have been shown to be highly effective in reducing OCD symptoms and improving overall functioning. Offering further  unique elements like, peer support from those with lived experience,  and shame resilience participants work with experienced clinicians and therapists who specialize in OCD treatment, receiving personalized treatment plans tailored to their unique needs and goals.

Group therapy sessions are a crucial aspect of the Virtual IOP, providing participants with a supportive and understanding environment. Through these group therapy sessions, OCD exposure practice, peer support, individuals can share their experiences, gain insights from peers, and develop coping strategies under the guidance of skilled facilitators. Additionally, psychoeducation on OCD and related topics is an integral part of the program, empowering individuals with knowledge and resources to actively participate in their recovery.

“We are thrilled to launch our Virtual OCD Intensive Outpatient Program in Colorado. We have needed it for years” said Jennifer Head, M.A., Clinical Supervisor at In Focus Counseling. “By offering specialized and comprehensive treatment through telehealth, we aim to reach individuals who may have faced barriers in accessing the care they need. Our program is designed to provide intensive support, foster connection, and help individuals regain control of their lives.”
