Gabriel Atherton, M.A., LPCC

Gabriel is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) and an OCD Specialist. She is a summa cum laude graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma with her M.A. in Counseling Psychology who is trained in Exposure with Response Prevention (ERP) and is passionate about serving those who struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Gabriel’s primary focuses include working with children, teenagers, and adults who struggle with the effects of trauma, anxiety disorders, and OCD. She worked as a therapist with the Child Trauma Services (CTS) Program within the OU Health Sciences Center where she supported youth with PTSD and other trauma-related disorders, and has practiced within the UCO Psychology Clinic supporting adults with anxiety and trauma. Gabriel is committed to utilizing evidence-based therapy practices and recognizes each client as deserving of individualized care.

Gabriel wholeheartedly believes each person has the right to effective, specialized mental health care and hopes to expand such access as she progresses through her career. Her own struggles with seeking specialized care allow her a unique insight to the frustration of feeling unheard or disbelieved by providers who were simply unable to understand.  Gabriel continually strives toward cultural competence, is a vocal advocate for marginalized groups, and embraces versatility in meeting each of her client’s needs!
